Electron-impact excitation and ionization of atomic hydrogen in the Temkin-Poet model

Greg Ver Steeg, Seamus Riordan, and Klaus Bartschat

This page was created as part of a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) project. This project is being undertaken in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Drake University. It is directed by Professor K. Bartschat and funded by the National Science Foundation under grant PHY-0088917.

The goal of this project is to analyze electron collisions with atomic hydrogen in the simplified Temkin-Poet S-qave model. Particular emphasis is placed on the extraction of information from both a time-propagated solution of the Schroedinger equation (see Paper-I) and a time-independent solution constructed with the "intermediate-energy R-Matrix method" (see Paper-II). More information can also be found in the PDF file of a talk given at the 2002 meeting of the Division of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics of the American Physical Society.

We have also created several movies that illustrate the time-dependent dynamics. Follow these links if you like to see more:

1) The (magnitude of) the wavefunction for 30 eV incident energy

2) A projection movie for 20 eV incident energy (see Paper-I)
